Art Features in Seward

On the shorelines of Resurrection Bay, In Southwest Alaska lies a lovely port town. Seward has many different elements of beautiful artistry woven into the region. Surrounding snow-peaked mountains tower over beautiful alpine forests, and meltwater deluges into waterfalls just above a delightful boat harbor with surrounding beaches. The natural beauty alone is enough to leave you awe-inspired.

In addition to the natural wonder, the creativity of those who love and care for this seaside town is woven into the area. Seward is now known as the ‘Mural Capitol of Alaska’ for the abundance of mural artwork throughout the city. Additionally, there are quaint coffee shops, museums, art galleries to visit, and many opportunities for photography. This area is teeming with beauty.

Murals of Seward

More than 20 murals are scattered about Seward. As you explore the town and shops, you will be walking through a giant art museum of sorts. Many of these pieces showcase the history and elements culminated in creating the Seward we know today.

There is even a digital map available to help you navigate this unique display as well as physical card copies printed. We can thank the Mural Society, which has been creating and curating these giant artworks since 1992. There is an excellent variety of styles and concepts to appreciate.

On the ground floor, you can see the history of Seward displayed in historical past documents. Events and displays showcased throughout the year here.
