If you want to experience the best of Alaska from the coast to Denali, you’ll need at least 9 days. This trip does a good job of providing variety without too much time on the road, covering Prince William Sound, Matanuska Glacier, Talkeetna Mountains and Denali National Park.
Get off the bus! This year we’ve added a unique way to explore Denali Park…and miss the crowds on the bus tours. Learn more about how we like to visit the Denali Area.
This trip now includes beginner backpacking! There’s nothing like being self-sufficient in the Alaska backcountry. You’ll hike in with what you need for the night and wake up to great views away from the road. Your Guide will work with you to keep your load light and distances moderate.
Challenge Level: 3; Day hiking and scrambling. Trekking and climbing on glacier ice. Some primitive camping while sea kayaking & backpacking. Read more about Challenge Levels.
No experience required but you must be over 18, in good physical condition and prepared for the challenges of the Alaska backcountry.
$3390. Adventure Tour price includes all meals and activities listed. For full details see The Fine Print
We’ll meet you in Anchorage, and after a gear check and orientation, you’ll enjoy one of the most scenic drives in the world as we head towards the small town of Whittier, the gateway to Prince William Sound. The afternoon will be spent paddling past waterfalls and bird rookeries then on to our campsite in the rainforest.
This is a big paddling day as we pass glaciers and ice bergs, look for seals, sea otters and more. Camp on a remote beach for the night.
Paddle to pick up point and ride the water taxi back to Whittier before loading up the van to Anchorage for hot pizza & cold beer! Overnight at an inn or hotel in Palmer including showers and a bed!
Glacier trekking, and ice climbing with MICA Guides, the most experienced on “The Mat”, you will be sure to push your limits and come home with some amazing photos. After exploring the glacier you will take a plunge on our half-mile long zipline and conclude the day with an Alaska-style BBQ, soak in the wood-fired hot tub and camping at our Base Camp.
Today you’ll head out to explore a little of alpine Alaska on foot with backpacking in the Talkeetna Mountains. This is at a beginner level so we’ll keep the pace moderate and the loads as light as possible. We’re going for views, not distance!
Wake up to fresh brewed coffee at your campsite. Continue hiking out today then drive to a deluxe campground near Denali park (with showers!)
Enjoy splashy fun whitewater rafting on the Nenana River and possibly visit the famous Denali National Park sled dogs. Relax at the same campground for the night.
Today’s Denali Truck Safari gets up close and personal with the park, accessing rugged and beautiful places most people never see. Then we’ll head to Talkeetna for the night, what many people consider to be the quintessential Alaska town and supposedly the background for the tv show Northern Exposure.
A leisurely morning in Talkeetna with a classic Roadhouse breakfast and optional flight seeing or fishing. Return to Anchorage in the afternoon.
