NOTE: Six Mile Creek is a very serious raft trip and can only be run at certain water levels. If Six Mile cannot be run due to high water, we will try to adjust the itinerary to include rafting on the “Lion’s Head” run of the Matanuska River.
We’ll meet you in Anchorage, and after a gear check and orientation, you’ll enjoy one of the most scenic drives in the world as we head south. But this trip’s not just about scenery. In a couple hours you’ll be whitewater rafting on the mighty Six Mile Creek! Dropping over 50ft per mile this run features some of the most difficult and exhilarating rapids in guided whitewater through three canyons of class IV and V rapids. Then head north to Glacier View, and top off your adrenaline levels with a ride on the fastest zipline in Alaska…dropping off a 250 foot high cliff and almost a half mile long! Camping at our Base Camp overlooking the Matanuska Glacier rounds out the day.
Head out for the challenging backpacking and remote camping portion of your adventure. Into the backcountry with everything we need for two nights but keeping the loads down to go fast and light.
Wake up at your remote camp with fresh brewed coffee and a great view. Today we have all day to explore, look for wildlife, get to the top of something for a great view and make it to the next campsite.
More hiking to fill the day and get back to the van for return to Base Camp. You’ll conclude the day with an Alaska-style BBQ and a night camping here, a cold beer and soak in that hot tub are going to feel pretty good!
Glacier trekking and ice climbing with MICA Guides on the Matanuska Glacier. You’ll be able to push your limits and come home with some awesome photos. Back to Anchorage at the end of the day.
